The minimum wage will probably increase gradually to 47 percent of the average wage by 2029. It is now at 41.1 percent and has grown to 18,900 crowns since January.
From next year, guaranteed wages based on expertise, responsibility and work demands will only be maintained in the public sector, they will be abolished in the private sector. The government's amendment to the Labor Code, which was approved by the Senate on Thursday, takes this into account.
The standard will now be signed by the president.
The senators did not comply with the recommendation of the constitutional-legal committee that employees in companies also have guaranteed wages for the sake of equality. This was demanded by the unions, according to which the opposite will lead to lower wages and the expansion of the gray economy. The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Marian Jurečka (KDU-ČSL) objected that the minimum wage according to the regular increase established by her amendment will be higher in five years than most levels of the guaranteed wage.
The guaranteed wage represents the lowest earnings according to the expertise, demandingness and responsibility of the work and is paid in eight stages from the minimum wage to double it. According to the amendment, it will be maintained in the public sector, but only in four levels, with the lowest being equal to the minimum wage and the highest being 1.6 times it.
